We <3 Wegmans
I’ve been waiting for the day when I’d get to start talking about Wegmans on a blog, actually to be honest, just mention anything food and I’ll mention Wegmans a hundred times in any given situation with a giant smile. And now I’ve gotten all of Draper hooked. It’s an addiction, but a healthy one… let me explain.
I grew up in Buffalo, NY and Wegmans headquarters were in Rochester, just a hop skip and jump away. We had their stores in every major town and at one time, I lived right behind one. The point was, is that Wegmans, the most fantastic (grocery) store ever, gave our household access to ingredients and food we would not have had otherwise. It also got me inspired to eat healthy and love cooking.
Their produce section rivals your local farmer’s market because they are actually sourcing as much of their foods locally as possible, as sustainable too, AND believe it or not, keeping the costs reasonable. They even have a Twitter account dedicated solely towards announcing what came in fresh to each store daily, follow @Wegmanslocal. They’ve been a in the top Fortune 100 companies to work for- in the Top 3 spot to be exact, for quite a few years. This customer-friendly supermarket chain cares about the well-being of its workers, too. This year, 11,000 employees took part in a challenge to eat five cups of fruit and vegetables a day and walk up to 10,000 steps a day for eight weeks. Another 8,000 took advantage of health screenings that included a flu shot and H1N1 vaccine — all covered by Wegmans. And if that all weren’t enough, they give back to community in a huge way.
Every trip we take on behalf of Draper Therapies is usually followed by a, “how close are we to Wegmans,” so if you start to see us rambling about how awesome they are or reposting some of their material, you’ll know why. Their slogan fits very well in this case, “Every Day You’ll Get Our Best.”
P.S. The Northboro, MA store (first in MA by the way) opens October 16th, mark your calendars!
